how can I build it without mapnik-config?

Hi,

Installation instructions state that mapnik-config is required, but this binary is not included via package managers like apt or brew.

And here I found that its not compiled at all.

Any instructions how to patch setup.py or any other method to install python bindings for Mapnik?

based on this answer to another issue. here [https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/issues/4471], I managed to substitute mapnik-config with pkg-config. I now get c++ errors, so I am not sure if my patch is to blame or this package is dead.

I also had to mkdir -p packaging/mapnik/lib/mapnik/fonts packaging/mapnik/lib/mapnik/input. For some reason it complained about not finding them.

Don't rely on using the above verbatim because it is for my system, perhaps you have differences there.
